Computer Refurbishment Project

The TTCS started a computer refurbishment project in May 2020 to make available computers to

  • school students to continue their education that were being done online due to COVID-19, and
  • Schools and non profit organisations.

Our project was featured in the Newsday’s August 13 2020 article “Rescuing computers from digital oblivion”

What it takes to refurbish a computer

Refurbishing Computers and Laptops involves several steps :

  • Receiving computers and laptops from donors
  • Opening and cleaning the dust from the computers
  • Installing Solid State Drives and replacing CMOS batteries
  • Installing Windows (we are also considering Linux for future installs where Windows is not possible)
  • Ensuring latest drivers and updates are installed, including BIOS updates
  • Installing Free and Open Source Software for Windows
  • Delivering to schools, non-profit organisations and other recipients around Trinidad and Tobago

We’ve already donated several computers to families and delivered refurbished computers to over 100 various primary and secondary schools, families and non profit organisations and foundations.

How to request computers for a school or non-profit organisation ?

Please send an official letter from the school or non-profit organisation on an official letterhead to info@ttcs.tt

Have computers, laptops, parts to donate ?

Please ensure that computers are not too badly damaged (cracked laptop screen for example) and are older than 2010.
Typically computers that were running Windows 7,8 or higher should be ok.

Computers older than 2010 are more difficult to refurbish and have difficulty meeting expectations of today’s PCs.

Email us at info@ttcs.tt with details.

If you have spare computer parts (RAM, NVMe drives or SSD drives) we also welcome such donations.

Make a financial donation

The TTCS needs money to refurbish computers with
computer parts like SSDs and RAM.

Purchase computer parts to donate directly to TTCS.

For persons wanting to use their credit cards (including persons outside of Trinidad and Tobago!), you can assist the Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society (TTCS) by purchasing parts from our Amazon TTCS refurbishment list which holds our common computer parts that we need to refurbish desktops and laptops.

You can purchase items to ship to a US address that would forward items to Simon Frasier, who is a project leader of the TTCS computer refurbishment project.
