Trinidad and Tobago WhatsApp Community Rules

Welcome to the Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society WhatsApp Community!

This WhatsApp Community is for TTCS members to chat in topic-based groups about ICT related issues and to get important announcements from the Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society at https://ttcs.tt

We want the Community to be welcoming, informative, professionally respectful, and enjoyable. Members who join or participate in the Community are expected to comply with the following rules.

Keep it Respectful

Treat all participants professionally and respectfully.

Personal attacks, insults, harassment, bullying, defamatory or unsubstantiated personal allegations, discriminatory language, and deliberately inflammatory commentary are prohibited.

Disagreement is permitted and encouraged where it contributes to informed discussion, but members should challenge ideas rather than attack individuals.

No Threats or Intimidation

Threats, intimidation, harassment, or attempts to coerce another member are prohibited.

This includes using threats of legal action primarily to intimidate, silence, or pressure another participant. Legitimate legal, ethical, or regulatory concerns should be raised privately with the TTCS Executive.

Keep Discussions Relevant

Discussions should generally relate to:

  • information and communications technology;
  • TTCS meetings, events, projects, and activities;
  • professional development, employment, education, and training opportunities;
  • technology policy, cybersecurity, digital rights, innovation, and related matters; or
  • other subjects consistent with the objectives of TTCS.

Political, religious, or other general debates should be avoided unless they have a clear and direct connection to ICT or the work of TTCS.

Avoid Excessive Posting

Do not dominate discussions or post excessive, repetitive, or disruptive messages.

Members should give others an opportunity to participate and should avoid sending numerous separate messages where one consolidated message would be sufficient.

No Spam or Unsolicited Messaging

Do not post:

  • chain letters;
  • repeated forwarded messages;
  • bulk or irrelevant media;
  • scams or misleading promotions;
  • unsolicited advertising; or
  • content intended primarily to generate traffic, referrals, or sales.

Members must not use telephone numbers obtained through the Community for unsolicited private messages, marketing, recruitment, or addition to other groups.

Limited and Relevant Promotion

Members may occasionally share a concise link to an ICT-related business, service, event, publication, project, vacancy, course, or professional opportunity where it is relevant to the discussion or useful to members.

Repeated promotion, aggressive selling, and unsolicited direct marketing are prohibited.

Protect Privacy and Confidentiality

Do not post confidential, proprietary, privileged, or sensitive information belonging to TTCS, an employer, client, customer, public authority, or another person.

Do not share another member’s telephone number, personal information, private message, photograph, voice note, or other content outside the Community without permission.

Members should not publish screenshots of Community discussions outside the Community without the consent of the persons involved, except when privately reporting suspected misconduct to a TTCS Admin or the TTCS Executive.

WhatsApp should not be treated as a confidential forum. Members should assume that messages may potentially be copied, forwarded, or retained by other participants.

Cybersecurity and Unsafe Content

Do not distribute:

  • malware or malicious code;
  • phishing links;
  • suspicious downloads;
  • requests for passwords, authentication codes, or credentials;
  • pirated or unlawfully distributed software or media;
  • instructions intended to facilitate unauthorized access to systems; or
  • any other unlawful or materially harmful content.

When sharing an unfamiliar link or download, members should provide sufficient context for others to understand its source and purpose.

Admins may remove or restrict suspicious content while it is being reviewed.

Accuracy and Responsible Technical Discussion

Members should make a reasonable effort to distinguish verified information from personal opinion, speculation, humor, or unconfirmed reports.

Where incorrect information is identified, members are encouraged to correct it respectfully and, where practical, provide a reliable supporting source.

Personal Views

Unless expressly stated otherwise by an authorized TTCS representative, views expressed by Community members are their own and do not necessarily represent the views or official position of the Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society.

Administration and Moderation

The TTCS Executive and designated Community Admins may intervene where they reasonably believe that conduct:

  • breaches these rules;
  • creates or is likely to create a hostile or unsafe environment;
  • materially disrupts the Community;
  • exposes members or TTCS to security, privacy, legal, or reputational risk; or
  • conflicts with the objectives of TTCS.

Depending on the seriousness, frequency, and context of the conduct, action may include:

  • a private reminder;
  • a formal warning;
  • deletion or restriction of content where available;
  • temporary restriction or suspension;
  • removal from an individual group; or
  • removal from the TTCS WhatsApp Community.

Serious misconduct may result in immediate removal.

Complaints will be reviewed by the Admins or TTCS Executive. The existence of a complaint does not, by itself, establish that a violation occurred.

  • Keep it Respectful: Absolutely no personal attacks, insults, slander, or discriminatory language.
  • No Threats: Any form of threat (including threats of legal action) inside or outside the chat will result in an immediate ban.
  • Check Your Volume: Refrain from excessive, repetitive, or spammy posting. Give others a chance to speak

Reporting a Concern

If you consider a message objectionable, offensive, unsafe, or contrary to these rules, do not prolong the dispute in the group.

Please report the matter privately to a Community Admin or email info@ttcs.tt. Where appropriate, include the relevant message, screenshot, date, time, group name, and a brief explanation of the concern.

Reports should be made in good faith and handled as discreetly as reasonably possible.

Changes to These Rules

The TTCS Executive may revise these rules as the Community develops, including establishing additional topic-based groups or more specific posting requirements.

Continued participation in the Community after revised rules are published will constitute acceptance of the revised rules.
