Copyright Amendment Act 2008

The Copyright Amendment Bill 2008 was passed in both houses of the Trinidad and Tobago Parliament and is now known as the Copyright Amendment Act 2008.

There were several alterations made to the Copyright Amendment Bill 2008 (PDF ; 64K) in the Senate in February 2008. The House of Representatives approved these alternations in April 18th, 2008 and the final bill was assented on May 1st, 2008.

The Copyright (Amendment) Bill 2008 was introduced in the Trinidad and Tobago Senate on January 15, 2008.

According to the introduction :

The Copyright (Amendment) Bill, 2007 seeks to amend the Copyright Act, 1997 (Act No. 8 of
1997) (hereinafter called “the Act”) to facilitate Trinidad and Tobago’s accession to the World
Intellectual Property Organization Copyright Treaty (hereinafter called “the WCT”) and to the
World Intellectual Property Organization Performances and Phonograms Treaty (hereinafter called
“the WPPT”) and to strengthen the enforcement provisions of the Act.
