TTCS Savannah lime on Saturday October 26 2013 from 1pm at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain : flying Quadricopter demo
The Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society (TTCS) will be having a meeting on Saturday 26th October, 2013 at 1pm at the Queens Park Savannah, Port of Spain, opposite NAPA.
At this meeting, we will be demonstrating the Parrot AR 2.0, a wi-fi enabled, Linux-powered flying Quadricopter. We’ll see how to fly the Quadricopter using a phone and tablet. The Quadricopter is built on open source and has an open API so we’ll be showing you how we can use Javascript and Node.js to write your own code for autonomous flight.
If you want to learn a little code and see some stuff fly, join us at 1pm. We will be parking on the paved area opposite NAPA.
If the weather lets us down, we will move the lime to Vie de France, Maraval (no flying will be done inside the restaurant, though, just good company and lots of tech-talk).

Internet Goverance Forum 2013
The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is being held in Bali, Indonesia on 22-25 October 2013. The overarching theme for the 2013 IGF meeting is: “Building Bridges”- Enhancing Multistakeholder Cooperation for Growth and Sustainable Development”.
IGF 2013 draft schedule . Note that the times are local to Indonesia which is 12 hours ahead of Trinidad and Tobago.

Java 7 Update 45 available for download
Oracle has released Java 7 Update 45. The Oracle blog post about the release of Java 7 Update 45 mentions security updates and according to the Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory for October 2013 mentions up to 51 security fixes.
So, if you’re using Java, you should probably update. ASAP.

Adobe hacked ; information about 2.9 million Adobe customers and source code stolen
Adobe is reporting that attackers compromised Adobe’s servers and accessed Adobe customer IDs, encrypted passwords, encrypted credit/debit card information and source code for several of its software.

“…Very recently, Adobe’s security team discovered sophisticated attacks on our network, involving the illegal access of customer information as well as source code for numerous Adobe products. We believe these attacks may be related.
Our investigation currently indicates that the attackers accessed Adobe customer IDs and encrypted passwords on our systems. We also believe the attackers removed from our systems certain information relating to 2.9 million Adobe customers, including customer names, encrypted credit or debit card numbers, expiration dates, and other information relating to customer orders. At this time, we do not believe the attackers removed decrypted credit or debit card numbers from our systems. We deeply regret that this incident occurred. We’re working diligently internally, as well as with external partners and law enforcement, to address the incident. “

ITU 2013 State of Broadband Report published ; #Trinidad & #Tobago
The UN Broadband Commission has released the 2013 State of Broadband Report (PDF ; 1.2MB). From the ITU press release :
“the report reveals that mobile broadband subscriptions, which allow users to access the web via smartphones, tablets and WiFi-connected laptops, are growing at a rate of 30% per year. By the end of 2013 there will be more than three times as many mobile broadband connections as there are conventional fixed broadband subscriptions.
The State of Broadband is a unique global snapshot of broadband network access and affordability, with country-by country data measuring broadband access against the four key targets set by the 60 members of the Broadband Commission in 2011.”
So how does Trinidad and Tobago fare?
